Mangosteen Juice – the Truth is in the Taste

David Mcfarlane asked:

What is Mangosteen Juice?

It is juice made from the fruit of the mangosteen tree. That is the short (and smart aleck) answer. Mangosteen juice is also a nutritional supplement with powerful health benefits.

Mangosteen trees are probably native to Southeast Asia. That is where they grow best. They are difficult to cultivate in the Western hemisphere, and they require a subtropical climate, with temperatures never dropping below 45°F. The fruit is delicate and does not ship well. It does not process well, either, and breaks down with as little as ten minutes of pasteurization time.

To get your hands on fresh mangosteen, you have to go where it grows or pay a hefty price for a frozen mangosteen. There is a story that one high-end hotel had a crate of frozen mangosteens shipped to them, and sold them as a menu item for around $100 each—for a plum-sized fruit.

You can still get the health benefits of mangosteen by drinking mangosteen juice. This juice is made by pulping the entire fruit, straining it and pasteurizing the juice. It is important to get juice that is made from the entire fruit, because most of the health benefits are in the hull.

Mangosteen juice is the richest source of xanthones (a powerful type of antioxidant) on the planet. Antioxidants work at the cellular level, so they improve the health of all of your body systems.

Benefits of Mangosteen Juice

We do not know for sure what all of the benefits of mangosteen juice are yet. Research is being done, but the results are preliminary, so we cannot say for certain which of the claims made about mangosteen juice are true.

We do know that mangosteen juice is a potent antioxidant, and antioxidants prevent cell damage from free radicals. We also know that antioxidants are more effective when we get them from fruits and vegetables than when we take a processed supplement.

Antioxidants, such as those found in mangosteen juice, lower cholesterol levels and contribute to cardiovascular health. They may prevent some kinds of cancer. Some of the xanthones in mangosteen juice are Cox-2 inhibitors, similar to the ones found in arthritis medications.

Antioxidants decrease inflammation and improve immunity. They may improve brain function and they help with stomach and intestinal problems. Antioxidants improve the function of every cell in your body. Indeed, mangosteen juice is a flavorful, healthy way to get a load of xanthones. Drinking antioxidant mangosteen juice is one step you can take for better health.

All The Secrets of Mangosteen

Dane Stanton asked:

There’s a great deal of talk about mangosteen going around the health community these days. Why? Because mangosteen is a newly discovered fruit. When I say newly discovered I mean the fact that research has been done that proves all types of theories that mangosteen has the ability to heal many diseases and in fact increase people’s lifespan. So what is it?

Mangosteen Fruit

Mangosteen is the fruit of a slow-growing ultra-tropical tree. It has been grown and used in Asia for centuries, but isn’t easily cultivated in the Western world. When the tree is about ten years old, it begins to produce small purplish fruits. These fruits are what the buzz is about.

The fruit has two parts: a thick, purplish hull and a soft, white inner fruit. The inner fruit is prized for its delicate flavor, and it is called “The queen of fruit.” It’s the hull that has the most health benefits, though.

It’s important to not that the actual hulls of the mangosteen don’t taste anywhere near as good as the outside flesh so don’t be shocked when you bite into the middle, because I told you so! It’s usually a more bitter taste and you’ll find that the center is where the purple juice is stored. Mangosteens are known fro having high density stores of xanthones.

Xanthones

Xanthones are nutrients that are powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants repair cell damage and improve cell function. Xanthones work on all of our body systems. They are good for brain function, heart and lung function, immune system function, muscle and joint function and digestive function. They have powerful health effects because they work at the cellular level, and they work in all of our cells.

Benefits of Mangosteen Xanthones

Most of the talk about mangosteen has been directed towards its ability to improve different areas of health. There has been a great deal of research done on mangosteen and so far every result has been promising the say the least. Individual anecdotal reports show that this fruit has real and powerful health benefits.

One of the benefits that mangosteen is said to contribute towards is the reduction of hives on people who have strong allergies. Many people who have tried fruit will tell you that their allergies have become less and less frequent ever since they started eating mangosteen. Another benefit that that researchers still aren’t 100% sure about is mangosteen’s potential to reduce the likelihood of people getting cancer. This information is only speculation, however many lifetime consumers of mangosteen will tell you otherwise and in fact support the argument that mangosteen does reduce the likelihood of getting cancer later in life.

One other supposed benefit is mangosteen’s potential to improve respiritory infections such as asthma. This is probably one of the biggest reasons why people in the Western world have become so fanatical about Mangosteen.

Finally the last benefit that mangosteen is contributed for is its ability to improve skin strenth. You can actually get mangosteen oitment which is reasonably cheap compared to the fruit that health to heal skin marks and sores. Hives being one example.

It’s important to understand that these claims haven’t been proven yet; the research is still preliminary. This fruit may or may not be the cure for the common cold and cancer. However, because it definitely has the health benefits of high concentrations of antioxidants, it could make you feel better and healthier.

The Amazing Benefits Of The Mangosteen Fruit

Mike Vincent asked:

A little known fruit from South East Asia may offer a natural remedy for a wide variety of diseases including arthritis, dyspepsia, asthma and eczema. The Mangosteen fruit, once prized by Queen Victoria who offered a reward for anyone who could bring a fresh supply to England, is now sought after by health food enthusiasts, gourmet food buffs, and scientists alike.

The Mangosteen – the scientific name is Garcinia mangostana – is not related to the mango, despite the similar name. It grows only in a small number of countries such as Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, Brazil and India, and attempts to cultivate it elsewhere in latitudes above 20 degrees have failed. Due to limited cultivation and a short shelf life, it is, pound for pound, one of the most expensive fruits in the world.

It’s great taste, which has been compared to a combination of vanilla, strawberry, peach, grapes and grapefruit, combined with its reputation as a healing fruit are behind its popularity among exotic fruit connoisseurs. However, now scientists have identified substances within the Mangosteen fruit that can help to explain why it has been prized as a natural remedy for several diseases.

Many research papers on the fruit have been written, and a particular class of substances, known as xanthones have been identified as the ingredient that may be behind the health benefits of the fruit. Xanthones are a family of nutrients that have been linked to improved health in a number of studies. Mangosteen fruit has around 40 different xanthones and research may help to validate and explain why the fruit has been effectively used by traditional healers to treat a variety of diseases.

Modern researchers are trying to see if the fruit can be used to maintain intestinal health, strengthen the immune system, neutralize existing free radicals, fight minor muscle pain following exercise, support cartilage and joint function and promote a healthy respiratory system.

The key to the healing power of xanthones and Mangosteen fruit products may lie in their anti-oxidation qualities. Anti-oxidant substances inhibit oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen and peroxides.

In the context of your body, any compound that can fight against oxidation protects you from wear-and-tear on a molecular level. According to the U.S. government website, www.cancer.gov, “considerable laboratory evidence from chemical, cell culture, and animal studies indicates that antioxidants may slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer.”

In case you are wondering where you can pick up this miracle fruit, you will be disappointed if you try to find it in the fresh fruit section of your local supermarket. A limited range of cultivation and a short shelf life make it impossible to ship large quantities beyond the local areas where it is produced. However, you can purchase natural juice blends that contain effective amounts of Mangosteen extract. These Mangosteen products, such as Xango juice, are sold online and in health food stores.
